Summer Gardening

I have been enjoying my garden this year. This has been the first time I've had my own kitchen garden. My parents always had one when I was growing up, but this is really the first time I've had the time or the inclination to have one. With the state of the economy and the questionable nutritional content of supermarket produce, it just seemed the time was right to get my fingers dirty. Our little garden is 8' X 12' and has all the essentials. We've already eaten some lettuce and spinach. I've nibbled a few sweet peas and strawberries. I am also enjoying using the fresh herbs in my cooking. It's amazing the feeling of accomplishment you get after prepping, planting, weeding and feeding your garden when you are finally able to harvest it. I somehow feel closer to my true self, if that makes any sense. I just feel it is what I am meant to do. Anyway, the veggies somehow taste superior to what I buy in the store, and they last so much longer. After developing this pride and ownership of this little plot of land, I go postal on those dang robins stealing my strawberries. That's the reason for all the "decoration" in the garden. The giant owl and the little pinwheels seem to have done the trick. I'm glad I didn't have to resort to electric concertina wire and land mines! I like to keep a peaceable garden.
